Foolishness turns tough--and rather dangerous--in "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" (Fox), the most cutting edge emphasis of the successful screen establishment dependent upon the science fiction of French author Pierre Boulle (1912-1994). In this go-adjust, coordinated by Rupert Wyatt, there's a hereditary control turn and yet another warning that its not delightful to trick with Mother Nature., watch rise of the planet of the apes movie True, the baby Caesar is a shade too dear, like Giz in Gremlins. Freida Pinto can’t begin to make Franco’s girlfriend (a zoo vet) more than a gorgeous cipher. And the way in which the screenwriters contrive to place the big-pharma capitalist villain (David Oyelowo) at the center of the climactic gun battle on the Golden Gate Bridge is a mite obvious. (Talking apes? Cool! Having this guy jump into a police helicopter? Nah.) Patrick Doyle’s typically stupendous score sweeps aside the absurdities. But that wouldn’t jibe with Mr. Wyatt’s genial, untroubled take on the apocalypse. Though it skews grim in a Dickensian primate facility where Caesar learns some hard truths under heavy hands — and where you could swear the fuzzy inmates chant a protest that sounds remarkably like “Attica! Attica!” — the film is largely, perversely upbeat. It’s the end of the world as we know it, and the animals feel fine., Some old potion is served up in a reasonably spiffy new bottle in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Resurrecting a lucrative franchise for another go-round 43 years after Charlton Heston first found himself on the short end of the evolutionary pyramid, Fox has wisely steered clear of attempting another remake of the original, which was bungled so badly by Tim Burton a decade back, settling instead on a contemporary scientific yarn that serves as a plausible prequel to all the other films. Strong action, special effects and by far the most credible ape “performances” yet seen will spell box office to inspire chest-thumping in all markets., watch rise of the planet of the apes movie Another questionable element is the extent of the apes’ conversational abilities. When Caesar at last utters his first word, it’s undeniably a big moment. But the most effective simian interchanges are physical rather than verbal, so it will be a tricky tightrope to walk — if the series continues, which it likely will — to move the apes into full speech in a credible way.
